The rest of the day was devoted to reflection and team-building exercises. The planned activities took on new meaning in light of recent events, with discussions about ethics, communication, and mutual support dominating the conversations.
As evening approached, Ava found herself drawn to the retreat's lake. The water was calm, reflecting the fading sunlight like a mirror. She stood on the small dock, lost in thought, when she heard footsteps behind her.
"Mind if I join you?" Max's voice was soft, almost hesitant.
Ava turned, offering a small smile. "Of course not."
Max came to stand beside her, and for a while, they simply gazed out over the water in companionable silence.
"It's beautiful here," Ava said finally. "Peaceful."
Max nodded. "I've always loved this spot. It's where I come to think, to get perspective."
Ava glanced at him, noting the way the setting sun cast a warm glow on his features. "And what perspective have you gained today?"
