The collision left my body trembling, the impact reverberating through every inch of me. My breath came in shallow gasps, heart hammering like a wild drumbeat in my chest. The silence afterward was suffocating, pierced only by the relentless patter of rain against the twisted metal and shattered glass.
For a moment, I just sat there, gripping the steering wheel like a lifeline, trying to make sense of the chaos swirling inside my head. My limbs felt heavy, reluctant to obey. Panic prickled at the edges of my mind, sharp and insistent.
I tried to open the door. Locked. Stuck. Maybe the impact had warped the frame. My fingers scrambled desperately for the handle again, slamming my palm against the window in frustration. The rain sluiced down my face, mingling with tears I hadn’t realized I’d shed.
“Come on, Elena. Move,” I whispered to myself, voice cracked and desperate. “Get out.”
