Chapter 9
Third-Person POV:
Roxanne's body was pushed into the crematorium.
Silas stood outside the door, finding himself unable to shed a single tear.
"How did Roxanne die?" he asked.
"Late-stage pancreatic cancer. She only found out about it a month ago," Jennifer said.
Pain flared in Silas' heart. He instinctively gnawed on his lip and croaked out, "Why didn't Roxanne tell me? If I'd known earlier…"
"Roxanne didn't tell you because she didn't want to. In other words, she had lost all faith and hope in you," Jennifer said.
Silas was frozen to the spot, as if a bolt of lightning had struck him where he stood.
Roxanne must've grown disappointed in him long ago.
He had thought Roxanne would understand where he was coming from. All Silas wanted was a child. Megan was just a fling to him. No one could actually replace her, and neither would Silas actually divorce her.
Yet Roxanne had still lost all hope in him in the end—to the extent that she didn't even tell him that she was dying.
