Chapter 134
Jessica found Zachary in the parking lot outside the hospital.
He was sitting in the car, with a cigarette dangling between his fingers as he rested it on the open window. A gust of wind blew the lengthening ash off his cigarette.
She opened the passenger door and got in. He turned around and glanced at her, slowly snapping back to his senses. His gaze still lingered outside the window.
Placing the thermos in the backseat, she handed him his coat and urged, "Put it on. You don't want to catch a cold."
He said nothing. Flicking the cigarette butt away, he put on the coat.
"Should I drive?" she asked.
Zachary hummed in acknowledgment, so she got out and walked around to the driver's side. By the time she settled behind the wheel, he'd already shifted into the passenger's seat.
He couldn't even bother to get out of the car.
As soon as she sat, a twinge of anxiety pricked at her. She had never driven this car before.
