Aaron’s POV
My pity party has been cut dreadfully short.
I showered, made myself some coffee, and sent Doug back to the Moon Palace. The worst part of sobering up is having to listen to Caspian’s outright laughter at this new development. At this grave I’ve dug myself.
The laughter is a little off, though. Like he’s actually pissed at me – again – and trying to cope with humor. I’m sure he’ll tell me off later.
Once I’m cleaned up, my drunken dwelling concluded, I make to head over to Mae’s house. I haven’t forgotten that she requested I work with her office regarding our public image instead of contacting her directly, but surely she’ll be open to discussing being my very public, political rival.
I only get to my front door, opening it to a surprise visit from my father. He’s standing on my front stoop, poised to knock.
Seeing me open the door, he lowers his hand. “Son.”
I’m struck by the lack of pride in his greeting. “Father.” I don’t bother masking the disappointm
