Moments later, I caught his scent, strong, commanding, impossible to ignore, as it drifted into the room just before the door opened. Alpha Maurice stepped in with that effortless grace of his, moving like a man who owned everything he laid eyes on, which he did at least in this pack and that is including me.
“I heard you were looking for me,” he said, his gaze locking onto mine and refusing to waver.
“Yes,” I replied, exhaling softly. “This room feels suffocating.”
He studied me for a long moment, his expression unreadable, before nodding slightly. “Alright then. Get dressed—we’ll go for a walk.”
That wasn’t exactly what I wanted, so I didn’t respond. His lips curved slightly, amusement flickering in his eyes. “I suppose that means you don’t want to walk with me,” he said. And he was right.
“I’d prefer to walk alone,” I told him plainly.
He tilted his head, as if considering it for a moment, then replied, “No. But I can stay at a distance while you do.”
