The years I have been Alpha have been tremendous. It isn’t an easy task, but I take pride in what I have done. The challenges, the sleepless nights, the decisions that could make or break a pack—I’ve lived through all of it and I’m still standing.
“Alpha, it’s Maurice,” Alex said, handing me the phone.
It would be best to help him… to help that damn pack. But in truth, it’s not really the pack I care about—it’s him. Maurice. The son I can work with. Not the father.
“Yes, Alpha Maurice,” I answered as I took the call.
He didn’t speak immediately, took a second before his voice came through. “It’s about what I told you… I just wanted to know if I should still put my hopes on you or look somewhere else.” as if he has other options.
“Don’t look somewhere else, Maurice,” I said firmly. “I’ll be doing you this favor for old time’s sake.”
