“You’re running away again,” Marcus said to me. “Remind me why you’re here,” he added.
“I know,” I said, agreeing with him. “And I don’t care,” I said, looking out the window of his house. “You know, I really enjoy the silence here,” I said, staring at the trees. “For one, your house is beautiful, and secondly, I’m not hearing anybody. Nobody’s coming to see me to tell me that I’m doing a terrible job, siding with the wrong crowd.”
“Lydia comes to me. Melissandra comes to me.” I turned around and looked at Marcus. “Do you know who didn’t come to me?” I asked him.
“No,” he said. “Who didn’t come to you?” he asked.
“You,” I said, pointing at him. “And you know, I felt kind of guilty because we’ve been apart for so long, and out of everyone else in this pack, you’re one of the only ones I trust.” He placed a hand on his chest. “I’m sure your friend will feel wonderfully betrayed,” he said sarcastically.
