Chapter 14
It was already late at night by the time Chad returned home with the document. Only a single small lamp was left on in the living room.
Laurel was curled up asleep on the couch, still wearing the pink loungewear he'd bought for her.
Chad walked over quietly, picking up the blanket at the side and carefully draping it over her. But she woke up as soon as the blanket touched her shoulders.
"Why did you come back so late, Chad?" Laurel rubbed her eyes, voice tinged with sleep as she reached out to tug at his sleeve.
Chad parted his lips, unconsciously tightening his grip on the divorce agreement in his hand. The paper rustled faintly against his palm.
"What's this?" Laurel keenly noticed the document and took it before he could even react.
Her eyes lit up when she saw that it was Willow's divorce agreement. Her lips curled up into an involuntary smile as she said, "So Willow really gave you to me…"
"What did you say?" Chad frowned, and his voice dropped an octave.
