"I haven't," she replied softly. Her illness made her voice weak.
Claude sighed, about to speak again when she gently placed her small, delicate hands on his cheeks, stopping him. "Please, don't be angry, okay?" Her eyes welled up with tears, making her look vulnerable, like a fairy tale princess awakened from a long sleep.
Seeing her like this, Claude felt his irritation melt away, replaced by a sense of helplessness. "Okay, I won't be mad," he promised. He helped her sit up and said, "Let's get you some water."
He stood, fetched water from the thermos on the table, and returned to the bed. The room, filled with feminine decor, clearly showed she had been living here for years.
Handing her the glass of water, he started to help her drink, but she took it from him. "I'll drink it myself," she insisted.
She drank slowly, finishing the entire glass
