Olivia stared at Tyler, her mind racing. She couldn't believe what he had just said, but that was all he offered—no further explanation, no apology.
She felt confused as he finally let go of her hand, asking, "Did you read Naomi's letter?"
"I did," Olivia replied, her voice cold. She rubbed her wrist, as if trying to erase the lingering warmth from his touch.
Tyler noticed the gesture, feeling the remnants of her warmth still on his fingertips. Instead of responding, he looked out the window, his thoughts elsewhere.
The silence between them grew heavy. After a moment, Olivia tucked her hair behind her ears and said, "Let me out if you're not going to the hospital."
The air in the car turned icy, tension thick between them.
Just then, Tyler's phone rang. He glanced at the screen, and Olivia couldn't help but look too. She saw that the call was from his family home.
She thought he would ignore it, but to her surprise, he answered right in front of her.
