The bottle was half-empty when I picked it up again—or maybe it was already empty. I couldn't tell anymore. There were empty bottles all over the floor.
I poured the last drop into the crystal glass. My hand shook as I did. The burn of the liquor didn’t bother me—it never did anymore. It was the silence that hurt. The kind of silence that pulled at your bones and chewed at your soul.
“Eliza…” I whispered her name like a prayer.
The taste of her name on my tongue felt foreign now. Days, weeks, months—it all blurred together. But the pain? That remained sharp. Her laughter echoed in my head.
I saw her smile—the way her nose scrunched up when she laughed too hard, how her eyes sparkled when she was teasing me. I remembered the warmth of her body against mine, her voice saying my name like it meant something. And then I saw the way her face crumpled when she found out about Isabella and me. The look in her eyes—the disbelief, the hurt, the betrayal.
