LIAM’S POV
I sat on the bench outside the training grounds. My boots were dusty. My elbows rested on my knees, and I had a deep ache in my chest that I didn’t want to acknowledge.
Zane dropped down beside me with a quiet sigh. His eyes narrowed slightly like he was trying to figure out how to say something without setting me off.
“She’s right, you know,” he finally said.
I didn’t look at him. “About what?”
“Natalie,” he answered simply. “She was right about Ned. There’s no way he escaped by normal means. It had to be magic. And not just any kind.”
I turned slowly to face him. “What kind?”
Zane scratched the back of his head, then leaned forward with his elbows on his knees. “Nate just confirmed it. We had a few spell books from the archives checked, cross-referenced them with the pattern on the floor where Ned disappeared. It’s teleportation magic… from a Devil.”
