LIAM’S POV
The battlefield was silent. Too silent.
Ash still swirled in the air from Memphis’s fall.
The scent of smoke and blood filled my lungs, but none of it mattered. The only thing I saw was her, Natalie. She was laying on the ground like the life had been torn from her.
I didn’t hesitate. My claws slashed the last threads of smoke as I rushed forward.
“Nat!” My voice cracked as I dropped to my knees. I gathered her into my arms. She was limp. She was too still.

My chest caved.
“No, no, no…” I whispered, pressing my face against her hair.
