The murmurs started the moment Alexander’s command was issued.
Some of the Mystic Corps soldiers, who had remained silent until now, finally found their voices.
I caught snippets of hushed conversations. Their talks were filled with doubt, suspicion, arrogance.
It was obvious what they were saying. They didn’t think I deserved this role.
Lieutenant Michael Brown was the loudest of them all.
“I challenge you,” he said, stepping forward with his arms crossed over his broad chest. His smirk was sharp, condescending. “A leader of the Mystic Corps should be tested. Prove to us that you’re worthy.”
I cocked my head, amused by his audacity. My wolf stirred inside me, watching, waiting. The soldiers shifted, forming a loose circle around us. Everyone seemed to anticipate this.
“Challenge accepted,” I replied coolly, cracking my knuckles.
Michael was a skilled warrior, one of the best in the Corps. He had strength, speed, and confidence—too much confidence. He assumed my acceptance
