The meeting with David left Alexander feeling both reassured and deeply unsettled. He knew what he had to do—there was no room for hesitation now. He needed to make his presence felt at the company, to reassert his control before Richard could solidify his position any further.
As the evening drew near, the office began to quiet down. Most of the staff had gone home, leaving only a skeleton crew of night workers to maintain operations. Alexander sat in his office, the dim light of his desk lamp casting long shadows across the room. His mind was a whirlwind of strategies, possibilities, and contingencies.
He had just finished reviewing the final reports for the day when his phone buzzed on the desk. The screen lit up with an unknown number. Alexander frowned, hesitating for a moment before picking it up.
"Hello?"
There was a pause on the other end, followed by the sound of someone breathing heavily. Then, a familiar voice—low and gravelly, dripping with malice—spoke.
