Charisse approached with a polite smile. "Ms. Davis, this way please."
Victoria rested her arm on Charisse's as she elegantly stepped into the hotel lobby.
The banquet hall was bursting with colorful arrangements, but still managed to stay tasteful. Victoria glanced around and asked, "You put all this together?"
"Yes, all according to your specifications."
"Not bad. Looks like you were born for this kind of work."
Charisse kept her calm smile, like she didn't even notice the dig.
Victoria settled into the seat at the main table—the central, most eye-catching one. As the guest of honor, the banquet wouldn't really kick off until she arrived.
Dish after dish was served, but Victoria didn't let Charisse leave. Instead, she said, "Stay and look after me while I eat. Pour me some wine first."
Charisse filled a wine glass with the decanted red, placed it gently by Victoria's side.
Whenever Victoria looked at a dish, Charisse would use the serving fork to place a portion onto her plate.
