Finally, the door to Emily's hospital ward opened.
The attorney emerged from within with a professional smile on his face.
Gabriel leapt to his feet at almost the exact moment the attorney stepped out of the room. Then, he stood in the attorney's tracks.
The attorney was startled by the intimidating air around Gabriel and instinctively took a small step back.
"Why did you go see her?" Gabriel asked. It wasn't just an inquiry, it was a pointed question.
The attorney soon calmed himself down and, in consideration of his professional ethics, gave a tactful answer. "I'm sorry, sir. I am bound by client confidentiality."
Gabriel's eyes dimmed. "I am her husband," he confidently declared.
The attorney's heart dropped. This time, he no longer dared to hide anything. He truthfully answered, "Mr. Holton, truth be told, Ms. Sterling plans to lodge an appeal on Vivian's case."
Emily planned to lodge an appeal? So, this wasn't about the divorce?
