Daniel's POV
I couldn't believe it.
Third time, I had called out to Kimberly to put the pieces back together, and third time, she answered me back with apathy. The sting of rejection was deeper than I had anticipated, but simply I just could not let her be. I had saved her when nobody else bothered. I had picked her up from the gutter when the world turned its back on her. Wasn't she supposed to be grateful? Wasn't she supposed to fathom that I gave her a life she had never seen, a life worth living?
Instead, it was as if I did not exist for her. It isn't just the coldness; instead, it painfully frustrated me.
I admit my words hurt her, but by now she ought to have forgiven me; after all, we had grown up, why could not she see in simple ways how all that was humanly possible to bring about a resolution was just what I attempted doing.
