Chapter 126
Nelson Cooper sat in the backseat, one leg casually crossed over the other, his fingers tapping rhythmically on his knee.
After a moment, he looked up and asked, "Evan, do you work for me or Serena?"
Evan had been around the corporate block more than once, and he instantly caught on to the meaning behind the question.
He apologized right away. "Sorry, Mr. Cooper. I know what I should do now."
He hadn't worked under Nelson for long, but long enough to know the man's temper. That comment had come out mild, sure, but for anyone who knew Nelson, that was when he was truly pissed—way scarier than when he actually showed it.
Not daring to say another word, Evan straightened up and focused on driving.
Unexpectedly, Nelson spoke again, explaining himself.
"I never said that place at Lakeside Haven was going to be a wedding house," he said. "Even if Serena brings it up with you, just tell her straight. And anyway, even if I didn't give that place to Claire, she still wouldn't live there."
