Claire turned around and caught a glimpse of Lucas's sharp, clean-cut side profile.
She gave a slight nod, eyes laced with worry as they drifted back toward where Adrian had disappeared.
"Does Adrian know about this?"
Lucas followed her gaze, the corners of his lips twitching into a faint smile.
"Actually, it kinda has something to do with you," he said softly, and then patiently started explaining some older stuff from back when things were messier in their family.
As he talked, it naturally led to bits and pieces about Adrian's past. Sometimes he'd veer off into stories involving their other brothers, and even their little aunt somehow roping Uncle Leo into the mess. By the time he was done, it was already late, the whole house quiet, and Claire could barely keep her eyes open. After washing up, she flopped into bed and was out in no time.
When she woke up the next morning, she was still half-asleep, just sitting there in a daze in her room until she slowly came around.
