Jameson sensed something was off. His throat was dry, panic kicked in, and he made a dash for the door, banging on it like mad.
But the CEO's office door wasn't some cheap wooden panel. It was made of some reinforced material, with one-way glass that looked fragile but was nearly unbreakable—even with a sledgehammer, let alone someone like him, legs shaking and hands empty.
Oliver gave him an indifferent glance, then casually lowered his eyes to check his phone.
Claire had just sent him a few pictures. In them, their mom was out in the orchard with Lauren and Henry, picking fruit. All three of them were smiling. Warm sunlight filtered through the trees, casting a soft glow on their happy faces—picturesque, really.
Oliver scrolled through the photos with a faint smile surfacing on his sharp features, so gentle it was hard to imagine that this was the same guy who'd just threatened someone to their face.
