Chapter 289
Claire woke up on the way back to the Fields' old house.
They were already close. The car had long left the city behind, surrounded now by endless greenery outside the window. Just looking at it made her feel a bit more at ease.
She stared out for a while, her brain finally dragging itself into gear. Slowly, the memory of what happened earlier started to piece together.
She remembered sitting in the hospital for what felt like forever, then following her brother downstairs… and then, nothing.
How the heck did she fall asleep in the car?
Before she could even ask, Oliver spoke up first. "You're up? There's some water and snacks in the compartment—grab something if you're hungry. We should be home in about ten minutes."
She wasn't really hungry—just woke up, after all.
But her throat was dry.
She pulled out a bottle of water, took a few gulps, then asked, "When did I fall asleep? One second I was in the hospital, and the next thing I know, we're almost home?"
