Nelson's wedding had caused quite a stir in their social circle. Mr. Cooper senior had forced him to marry Claire back then, but the bride was shipped overseas that very night. Everyone thought she was just another gold digger who got lucky, but clearly wasn't lucky enough. That "Mrs. Cooper" title? Nothing but smoke and mirrors without Nelson around. Meanwhile, Serena, the other Thompson daughter, had long seen herself as the real Mrs. Cooper, just biding her time till Claire was out of the picture. She really thought she'd won already.
