Chapter 515
Angela spent a restless night, tormented by nightmares that left her weak and drained. Even the nurse felt pity for her, gently wiping the sweat from her forehead with a warm towel several times.
By dawn, perhaps from sheer exhaustion, Angela finally slipped into a deep sleep on that early winter morning.
At the door, Richard listened as the nurse described the night.
"Her fever has gone down—it’s only a low-grade one now. But Miss Angela kept having nightmares, waking up and falling back asleep over and over. Captain Nie, you should comfort her when you can."
Nie gave a slight nod. Once the nurse stepped aside, he pushed open the door. A sliver of soft winter sunlight spilled into the room, falling across the girl curled up in bed. Illness had drained the color from her face, but she slept soundly.
He sat beside her, his gaze lingering on her features, his expression thoughtful.
What should he do with her? Send her back to her parents—or let her stay here a little longer?
