A week later, Amelia had a rough day at work. She ended up being so caught up in work that she ended up staying late. Amelia fished for her phone in her purse, her anxiety rising the fact that she'd stayed away from the kids for too long and since she had not thought she would have stayed this long, she didn't make arrangements for a babysitter.
She finished the last report and glanced at the Victorian clock on the wall. It was half past eight pm. As she hurried out of the office and to the lobby, she was surprised to find a sizable number of her colleagues still working, but she was done for the day.
As she stepped out of the lobby, phone at hand and purse under her arm, a car horn hooted somewhere in front of the building. No, not Ethan. He was the last person she wanted to see, but when she peered closely, she realized it was Mark.
He stepped out of the car and opened the car door for her, a small smile plastered on his face. “Get in”.
