Chapter 272: The last straw
As the sun dipped low in the sky and the fire crackled, Evan couldn't help but notice the bond forming among the group. Despite earlier tensions, they were starting to feel like a team, brought together by their shared adventures in the wild.
Yet, deep down, Evan felt a gnawing sense of dread. It lingered in the air like a heavy fog, making him uneasy. He reminded himself to stay alert, no matter what.
As they settled in for the night, Evan's unease grew. He tossed and turned in his sleeping bag, unable to shake the feeling of impending danger. "Anyone else feel that?" he whispered into the darkness.
His friend, Sarah, stirred from her own restless sleep. "Feel what?"
"I don't know... Something's not right," Evan replied, his voice tense.
Sarah sat up, concern evident on her face. "You're just letting your imagination run wild. Try to get some sleep."
But sleep remained elusive for Evan. The forest seemed to whisper secrets, and he couldn't quiet his racing thoughts.
