The murmurs and laughter of the banquet guests faded into the background as I made my way to the bar, still replaying Nicholas’s words in my head.
"Our agreement is to fulfill each other’s wishes. So I suggest you stop putting your nose in someone else’s business."
What was his deal? I wasn’t prying—I was simply making conversation. But his reaction? The icy glare, the way his voice dropped lower like a warning? It was almost as if he was hiding something.
I exhaled sharply, shaking my head. Whatever. If he wanted to keep his secrets, that was fine. It’s not like I actually cared. This whole marriage arrangement wasn’t built on trust or love anyway—it was a business deal. He got what he wanted. I got what I wanted. That was all there was to it.
