My phone buzzed.
I barely glanced down, intending to ignore it, but the name flashing across the screen caught my attention.
Alicia.
Curious, I opened the message.
Alicia: You’ll be pleased to know that I won the project. Looks like I owe you a ‘thank you’ after all. Try not to let it go to your head.
A smirk tugged at my lips.
A second message appeared immediately after:
Alicia: Don’t get used to it.
I exhaled a quiet chuckle, shaking my head. Of course. Even when admitting she owed me, she still had to add her usual sharpness.
Currently, I was in the middle of a meeting, but to be completely honest? It was boring as hell.
Not that I didn’t appreciate the effort—my employees were presenting in excruciating detail, making sure to outline every insignificant point. Normally, I encouraged thoroughness, but one thing about me? I preferred it concise.
My fingers tapped idly against the table as I listened with half an ear, my mind drifting elsewhere.
