AUBREY'S POV
I paced my room like a caged animal, my thoughts spinning in endless circles. The moonlight streaming through my window only reminded me of standing in that clearing with Knox, of his touch on my face, and of the way my treacherous heart had wanted to say yes.
"He'll know by now," I whispered to myself. "Jax will know."
"Good," Aria muttered in my head. "Maybe then you'll finally see—"
The rest of her thought cut off as a dark shape swooped through my open window. My heart plummeted as the raven landed on my desk, its obsidian eyes reflecting the moonlight like tiny mirrors.
"Aubrey." Jax's voice emerged from the bird's beak, cold and hard in a way I'd never heard before. "Would you care to explain why I'm hearing about you rejecting Knox's proposal from someone other than you?"
My hands began to shake. "I—I was going to tell you."
