Cassandra thought she had always been the sweetest.
Even a family dog could have a temper, but she never did. Instead, she had always done as she was told, come when summoned, and left when dismissed.

He held the phone to his ear. "What is it?"
"Evelyn is back in town today, and I want to go meet her later," Cassandra said.
Gregory didn't respond immediately. To be honest, of all Cassandra's friends, he liked Evelyn the least and didn't want Cassandra getting too close to her.
Cassandra continued, "Evelyn has a friend, a well-known ophthalmologist who just returned from abroad. I want to get my eyes checked, and I'll have Evelyn go with me. If my eyes recover quickly, I can get back to work sooner."
It was time for her eyes to be fully healed anyway, so this was just a convenient pretext.
