Katelyn’s POV
As soon as I got home after Ethan dropped me off and left, I saw Gray in the living room, sitting comfortably on our old couch and chatting with my dad over mugs of coffee. For a moment, I just stood in the doorway, surprised to see how well the two of them were getting along.
My dad was laughing at something Gray said, and Gray looked completely at ease, as if he’d been part of the family for years.
I set my bag down and tried to brush the worst of the smoke out of my hair. Gray and Dad glanced over as I walked in. My dad said, “Katelyn, Gray was just telling me about his days as a high school football player. He’s got some good stories.”
Gray gave me a grin. “Your dad is a tough audience, but I think I finally impressed him.” I managed a small smile.
“I’m going to take a quick shower,” I told them, “I smell like I’ve been living in a chimney.” Gray laughed and said, “Don’t worry, I’m in no rush.”
