Ethan’s POV
For a moment, the ballroom was so silent I could hear my own breath. Every eye was fixed on the grand staircase as Katelyn continued her steady descent, the light catching on her gown. I was absolutely stunned. But the shock wasn’t mine alone.
Just to my right, I saw Marcus, Scarlett, and Derek freeze as they recognized her. Marcus’s mouth fell open. Scarlett stared, blinking furiously, as if she couldn’t trust what she was seeing. Derek just stood there.
Scarlett found her voice first, but her words were sharp and panicked. “That can’t be Katelyn. There’s no way. She’s just an ordinary reporter. This is a mistake.”
Derek shook his head. “No, Scarlett. Look at her. There’s no mistake. That’s really Katelyn.” He sounded awed. “She’s the daughter of a billionaire. I had no idea.”
Scarlett’s tone grew desperate. “How? How could she, when did this happen? Why didn’t anyone say anything?”
