Chapter 217 Call An Ambulance
Katelyn's POV
Winter crept in so quietly that I didn’t realize it was here until the morning I went to pick up my car. The garage floor was dusted with a thin layer of white frost, and the cold bit at my cheeks. My breath rose in pale clouds as I paused, taking in the stillness before sliding into the driver’s seat.
Lucas had shot up again, enough that his jacket sleeves no longer reached his wrists. Recently, he’d been dragging his feet over math homework, claiming it was “boring,” but his enthusiasm for swimming was undeniable. I wasn’t sure how long this phase would last, but I decided to encourage it anyway and found him a coach.
After his lesson, Lucas came bounding out of the pool, hair dripping, cheeks flushed from the cold. He plopped down beside me on the bench, pulling his towel tight around his shoulders.
Between bites of the granola bar I’d handed him, he said casually, almost like it was an afterthought, “Dad’s really tall. I bet if he went swimming, he’d win races.”
