Katelyn’s POV
My father’s voice carried a weight I hadn’t heard before. He wasn’t angry, and he wasn’t sickly weak either. He was steady—too steady.
“I’ve decided,” he said. “I’m not taking treatment. Not anymore.”
The words hit me like ice water.
I shook my head quickly, desperate to stop them from landing. “No… no, you can’t just—”
He raised a hand, calm and firm. “Katelyn. Listen.” His gaze held mine, unflinching. “If I spend what time I have left in hospitals, in pain, what do I give your mother? Endless days of suffering. She deserves better. I want to spend every day I have left with her—whole, present, not broken on a bed.”
Tears blurred my vision before I could stop them. My throat burned. “But, Dad… there must be something. Another doctor, another treatment—”
“I’ve spoken to more than enough,” he said softly. “And I know what they’d say. Even if I fight, the end will not change. It will only drag her through more nights of fear.”
My hands trembled. “You’re choosing to leave us
