The house was still thick with tension after David’s visit, and I felt like my nerves were stretched to snapping.
Marcus called me downstairs. My heart thumped with dread.
David was waiting in the living room, looking even more imposing, the lines of his face set and cold. He barely spared me a glance. Instead, he turned his gaze on Marcus. “I need Katelyn’s passport. Now.”

David’s tone was sharper than before, full of authority. “It’s needed for Lucas's medical treatment.”
