Katelyn’s POV
The world outside my window was blue and bright, the kind of day that begged you to set aside worries,
I turned to work. There were stories to finish, interviews to transcribe, emails piling up in my inbox.
I set a mug of tea next to my laptop and forced myself to focus. But the shadows of recent events lingered, refusing to fade.
Just as I was starting to get into a rhythm, my phone buzzed.
It was Rachel. “Hey, Katelyn,” she said, her words clipped. “Do you have a minute?”
“For you? Always,” I said, shifting in my chair, sensing something was wrong. “What’s up?”
There was a long pause before she answered. “It’s my company. There’s… been a development. My partner was ousted.”
The news was a punch to the gut.
“Ousted? How?” I asked, voice low.
“He got involved in some scandal,” she said, almost whispering the word. “Something from his past. The board found out. They pushed him out.”
I let out a slow breath. “Rachel, I’m so sorry.”
