Chapter 71 Played for a Fool
Luther's expression froze in an instant. He stared at Cressida's innocently smug face, his mind buzzing blank for several seconds.
"What do you mean?" His voice dropped low.
"You heard me." Cressida stepped forward and planted herself in front of him, tilting her chin up to look at him. "I agreed to the divorce, but I never agreed to withdraw from the competition."
"Do you take me for a fool?" He closed the distance, his tall form eclipsing her.
"Exactly!" Cressida admitted it coolly, even tucking a wind-tousled lock of hair behind her ear. "I played you for a fool."
Those words lit a fuse inside him, his rage boiling over.
"Cressida!" he roared, drawing a few startled glances from passersby. "Do you think getting the money out of me was all there is? I'll have you know that I have my ways to make you cough up all the money you took from me, along with interest!"
"Oh, really?" She advanced half a step, unflinching. Their breaths mingled in the thin air between them.
