Chapter 189
There was a deadly silence inside the old factory. The metallic smell of blood spread through the air, mixing with the rustiness of the old machines and the smell of something festering. It was nauseating.
Suddenly, Lorraine asked, "Why aren't there any animal sounds, Dad? And why isn't anyone talking? Are the baddies all gone?"
Matthew rubbed her back gently and said, "Yeah, they're gone. Here, let me make a sound for you, and you can guess what it is. Meow!"
She cried happily, "It's a cat! I know it is! I'm really smart, aren't I?"
He hummed in agreement. He'd only talked about imitating animals because he was worried the men would scare Lorraine with their yells and shouts when he killed them. If they got too noisy, he could imitate animals to soothe her.
Now that he wasn't attacking anyone, he stopped making animal noises. Instead, he looked around warily.
