Chapter 284
Megan shook her head as she stood up with Tristan's help. "He's adorable, not bothering us at all."
The elderly woman set Liam down. "Go build your sandcastle."
As Liam played nearby, the old lady spoke, eyes clouded with memories. Her daughter and son-in-law had died in a sea rescue mission. Some folks blamed Liam's birth date for bringing misfortune, and that thought had weighed heavily on him.
She then glanced at Megan's belly and said, "Looks like a little rascal in there, probably a boy—naughty enough to drive you crazy, but when he grows up, he'll look out for you."
The woman tugged gently on Liam's hair. "Liam, the sun's going down. Time to head back."
Liam stood up, waving his tiny shovel. "Bye, Auntie Megan! Your wish will totally come true!"
Megan instinctively looked at her stomach. Tristan clasped her hand tightly. "Don't overthink it. We're gonna be fine. We won't ever leave our kid alone in this world."
The two leaned into each other, watching the sun sink below the ocean
