49. BREATHLESS
~ Zoie’s POV ~
Zoie tiptoed down the stairs as the whole house was dark and quiet. The only source of light was the small lamp coming from the kitchen. She looked from side to side before making her way to the kitchen. The clock on the wall showed that it was 2 AM. Everyone was probably asleep. Everyone except the guards, of course.
Zoie went to the fridge and took out a bottle of water. She wasn’t really thirsty, but she needed an excuse to walk out of her room at 2 in the morning. After grabbing the water, Zoie looked around before going back up the stairs again.
Phew. I think the guards are patrolling the other side of the house now.
Having lived all her life in this mansion, Zoie knew all the nooks and crannies. She knew where the best hiding spots are, where are the best exits if she wants to sneak out, and where the guards will be at certain times.
