It was the ideal concept. No evidence of my involvement, no body to bury. Simply vanishing into the depths. I gave a nod of approval.
"Then a decision is made. Make plans for his transfer right away.
Landon paused again, then let out a defeated sigh. "As you command, my King."
I looked out the window at the enormous realm I had worked so hard to preserve as he departed the chamber. Cameron would soon be reduced to a memory, a ghost engulfed by the shadows.
And at last, I would be at peace.
The only sound in the room was the crackle of the torches that lined the stone walls. On the shiny floors, the dim light created unsettling shadows that drew closer to me like creeping claws. I clenched my fists around the amber wine goblet before me, but I didn't take a sip. My mind refused to calm down and continued to swirl like a storm.
