Ella’s POV
When I opened my eyes, I didn’t know where I was.
The world around me wasn’t the one I knew. It was darker, yet somehow louder, like stepping into a different dimension filled with the sound of distant screams and rolling thunder. I stood at the precipice of a tall cliff, overlooking a sea of blackness below.
A dark, roiling ocean of… souls.
As I stared into that sea, that swirling mass of lonely spirits and twisting desperation, I suddenly realized where I was. I had been here before, just once, for the briefest moment. To think that I had forgotten—how could I forget this place? This awful void of sadness and loneliness and all of the other hopeless things our broken spirits were subjected to when we refused to cross over?
