Carrie’s Point of View
Lucas’ gaze lingered on Derek threateningly for just a few moments before he looked over at me. I stared at him in horror as he looked back at me intently. His eyes were menacing and expression crazed.
Suddenly, he screamed into the room and threw the doors he was holding behind him. They crashed loudly against the concrete wall and blankets of dust started falling around the room. I looked fearfully to the place where the doors landed and noticed a few legs sticking out from underneath them. My eyes flicked from the legs to Lucas’ face, which never left mine.
I instinctively started crawling away from him as he advanced through the crowd. It seemed as if we were the only two in the room, and he was intent on getting to me. All the fear of when I was back in his care came back to me, making me hyperventilate. I remembered the pain, the loneliness, the despair, and it was too much. I couldn't go back to him. I wouldn't.
Lucas smiled at me as if hearing my thoughts
