As Mom gently spoke words of comfort and carefully reminded me of things to watch out for, a strange warmth filled my chest.
Moments like this were rare between us. She had always shown that kind of concern for Helen, but at last, she was showing it to me too.
I kept nodding along, letting her know I was listening.
Suddenly, the door to the study opened, and Felix walked out.
Mom flashed a graceful smile and invited us to join her for dinner.
During the meal, Felix kept serving me food while chatting with my father. At first, his attention had made me nervous, but I had grown used to it. His quiet care had become familiar.
Under the table, I felt a sudden kick to my leg. I flinched in pain and looked up to see Mom shooting me a sharp look.
"You're letting Felix do everything for you. Do you not have hands of your own?"
