I was taken aback by how sharp Felix was. However, I couldn't tell him the truth about the things spiralling at home, so I fumbled my way through an excuse.
"It's not family. It's... a friend. She's going through something, and she doesn't have anyone around. I'm just worried. I thought I'd check on her."
"What friend?" he asked. "Do I know her?"
We had gone to school together our whole lives. He knew just about everyone I did.
Quickly shaking my head, I answered, "She was a classmate from college. You wouldn't know her."
Felix frowned. "Didn't you go to college overseas?"
I forced a smile, scrambling to cover my tracks. "Yeah, but she's Valantian too. She just moved back recently. I haven't had the chance to see her yet."
He rubbed his chin, still looking skeptical. "I see. Well, how about we fly back tomorrow?"
