When Nathaniel stepped into the house, Melanie had already changed into a tight red dress that hugged her figure. She beamed at him as if they hadn't seen each other in weeks.
"Nathaniel, finally! I've been waiting for over two hours. I'm starving here!"
She dashed over and clung to his arm with a pout. Her makeup was pretty heavy—trying too hard to be seductive—but under the dim light, it just felt a bit off.
Melanie thought she looked amazing, but to Nathaniel, the thick makeup didn't do her flat features any favors. If anything, it made her look kind of tacky.
For some reason, his mind kept drifting back to Caitlin's picture-perfect face. No matter how she wore her makeup—bare-faced or glam—she always looked effortlessly stunning, like she wasn't part of the same world.
Looking at the woman in front of him, Nathaniel sighed to himself. The contrast couldn't be more obvious.
Noticing he was distracted, Melanie leaned into his chest and cooed softly, "You look tired, babe."
