Chapter 397
Conrad's expression twisted strangely. Despite his injury and the loss of an ear, as a profound grandmaster, his senses rivaled Jordan's in acuity.
Despite Winona's utmost care to minimize any noise, Conrad's remaining ear caught faint hints of what was happening.
"It can't be. I even booked the room next door to ensure your privacy," Alfred remarked, turning to peer at the adjoining ward, baffled.
Ruby gasped, her expression filled with disbelief.
Could it really be Winona, her closest friend, in the adjacent room? And had that call been from Steven, coercing her into a scandalous affair right under Jordan's nose?
The more Ruby thought about it, the more convinced she became. Steven, that vile man, must have manipulated Winona into this predicament, exploiting her for his own twisted pleasure.
Ruby's blood boiled with anger. Winona had only been trying to protect her family when Steven first violated her. Now, she was likely being blackmailed and threatened.
"What's wrong? You look like you've seen a ghost," noticing Ruby's pale complexion, Jordan asked.
"I'm just tired from taking care of Lyle," Ruby replied, hastily covering her concern with a plausible excuse, all the while steeling herself.
Poor Winona, who had always been so kind to her, now thrust into such a humiliating position in front of her husband. Ruby vowed silently to safeguard Winona's secret at any cost. If this were to come to light, Winona's life would be shattered.
"Who's got the guts to stir up trouble in a hospital? I must admit, it's quite the bold move," Jordan chuckled, brushing off any concern for his daughter-in-law's fatigue.
His gaze shifted toward the neighboring room, curiosity piqued.
As a man, he found himself oddly intrigued by the audacity of it all. He even toyed with the idea of reserving a room himself to explore whether the hospital ambiance could reignite something with his wife, Winona.
"If you're curious, why not go check it out?" Alfred suggested casually.
In the adjacent room, Winona froze at the sound of their voices. A cold sweat broke out across her skin. The illicit thrill surged through her, nearly overwhelming her senses.
Tears welled up in her eyes as she silently begged Steven to stop. The thought of Jordan discovering her affair sent chills down her spine. The consequences were too terrifying to imagine.
But Steven's assault only grew fiercer.
"Please stop... I can't bear it anymore..." Winona pleaded.
But Steven remained unyielding. He refused to let Conrad spoil his pleasure.
With a mere thought, he activated the poison he had implanted in Conrad's body. The toxin, a microscopic parasite lying dormant until Steven commanded it, now wreaked havoc within Conrad.
As Steven manipulated the parasite, Conrad screamed in agony. He clutched his stomach and thrashed on the bed, drenched in cold sweat.
"What's going on?" Alfred was startled by the sudden outcry.
"I don't know…" Jordan was equally at a loss. As a grandmaster, he had no insight into the complexities of a profound grandmaster's condition.
They swiftly summoned the doctors. Leonard rushed in with a team, and they began examining Conrad, who was writhing in agony on the bed. Despite their efforts, they couldn't identify the problem.
"What are you all doing? Are you even trying? You probably just have it out for Steven because your daughter likes him!" Alfred snapped angrily.
"We're doing our best, but our skills are limited…" Leonard responded, visibly flustered.
"Then, find someone who can!" Alfred insisted. A profound grandmaster like Conrad was too valuable to risk losing.
Leonard looked grim. "The best doctor in Levix City is Steven. Xavier and the others aren't equipped to handle a profound grandmaster…"
