#Chapter 18: A Whole New Light
[Evelyn’s POV]
For a brief moment, Alexander and I had fallen into a silent world of our own. Upon my showing him the necklace that once belonged to my mother, he’d become captivated with its same intricate detail and craftsmanship as the one that belonged to him.
All the earlier tension between the two of us had melted away within seconds. He silently held out his hand, as though he were asking permission to get a closer look at my mother’s necklace. Carefully, I placed it in his free hand.
He spoke so softly that I nearly missed his words. “How is this possible?”
I could have sworn that I saw the corners of his mouth curve upward into a wondrous smile. It gave me a spark of pride, knowing that I was the one who gave him that feeling.
There wasn’t a single ounce of doubt in his expression when it came to my side of the story. However, Fiona was desperately trying to grasp at whatever angle of the situation she could.
