Chapter 20
The cemetery was shrouded in a thin layer of mist in the morning, and the bluestone path glistened with dew.
Iris gently placed a bouquet of white irises before Helen and Caelum's headstones. Nate stood half a step behind her, accompanying her quietly.
"Mom, Cal," she called out, crouching down and brushing her fingers against the cold stone. "Frank has been brought to justice, and the remaining members of Ivanov Group have been dealt with. Both of you… can rest in peace now."
Beside her flowers was another bouquet of white chrysanthemums, which were already wilting and still damp with fresh dew. It was likely left here earlier this morning.
Iris froze for a moment. Who would come to pay their respects to her family?
Nate noticed it too. He crouched down to check the bouquet and found a small card tucked into a crease of the wrapping paper.
There was no signature, only a single printed line. "I'm sorry."
The ink was smudged, as though water had soaked into the paper.
